He said/he said: another sex scandal

I've read the story about the influential evangelical pastor and the charges leveled against him and don't know what to think. On the one hand, if the gay prostitute accusing him of monthly trysts is lying, he should be held legally accountable and punished. The pastor's career and reputation are pretty much ruined. On the other, if the accusations are true, the pastor's got some explainin' to do.
Normally this is the kind of news I shrug off. What someone does in the bedroom -- unless that person is hurting someone -- is not the public's business. But if you make opposition to certain kinds of bedroom behavior the platform of your life, as Rev. Haggard has by opposing homosexual unions, then you need to be upfront.
There's either a lot of lying or a lot of hypocrisy going on.

Well, as it turns out -- he was lying. Since you wrote this blog, the guy has confessed. Or, at least had a confession read by some other man to his congregation. He is so brave!

The biggest surprise is that he did not claim to be an alchoholic (or meth, in his case) and run off to a treatment facility.

That has been the most popular way to explain bad behavior lately - Mel Gibson - Tom Foley - Come Mierda Arza. It wasn't THEM - not it was the BOOZE!

I kind of figured that he was guilty when he was caught in his car by a reporter and he kept SMILING after every answer he gave her (?!?) a nervous smile that showed his fear. His poor wife, sitting next to him.

He is a major hipocrite - on one hand, riding the GOP bandwagon of anti-gay marriage, and on the other hand, paying for gay sex. Very strange. Very, very strange indeed.

It seems to me that we are rapidly losing our faith in our leaders - both political and religious. First, the antics of Catholic priests with the innocent alter servers has been well documented and proven to be more than isolated incidents. Then, we have Tom Foley sending disgusting sexual propositions to young pages, and the arrogant Arza making obscene threat calls to a colleague. Why should we be surprised that this "religious" leader has been hiring a male prostitute and using recreational illegal drugs?????

What is wrong with people? Is there no self-control left in this world?????

These are not the kind of people that should be in leadership positions of any kind - these are anti-role models for our young. We need leaders that exemplify self-control and integrity.

Sad thing is that I am not sure that leaders like that exist. Really.
