Educating the rats in our midst
An elementary school in Little River in North Dade is so full of rats that the rodents cruise the hallways brazenly. Sick, sick, sick. This is beyond unacceptable. Where is Dr. Rudy Crew and his captains on this?
I'd bet a chunk of change that this would never happen at Pinecrest Elementary or at Palmetto or Krop High.
Maybe the No Child Left Behind has been altered to include No Rats Left Behind.

Ana I could not have posted a better comment. You nailed it sistah!
Yeah, Where is Dr. Crew and is captians on this one?
I use to be such a strong supporter of Dr. Rudy Crew upon is arrival to DCPS. But i see that he's just another self servant "black" man. He stated to the teachers of DCPS when he first arrived,"I have a open door policy" yeah right! Teachers have a better chance in contacting President Bush before then can contact you. There are so many major problems in our inner city schools and you haven't done a damn thing. You have failing schools, principals changing grades and being allowed to return to the scene of the crime and continue to still the future away from those students, and now rats running around our babies! Brotha where are you? Oh i know you're still pouting about being called the N word. Now don't get me wrong Ralph Arza needs to be dealt with and with our black leaders on his backside he will resign. But aren't you bigger then that? You know who and what you are.
Dr. Crew you stated in yesterday's paper " I continue to believe that there is something about the sanctity of a child's education."
REALLY BROTHA?!! Was that comment for the white schools only?
Why am I not surprised????
For a long time Miami-Dade County Schools has operated under a have vs. have not policy...
And for the record, this isn't the only school in Miami-Dade County that has or has had rats. I clearly remember being in high school in the mid to late 90's and being told to keep my bookbag off the floor b/c the mice and or rats may get in....and I went to a high school on the northern end of the county....
What is it going to take for MDCPS to get it together????
There is a double standard in DCPS. Anna said a mouth full about how the school officials would have responded in urgency if the rat problem would have existed in schools like Palmetto, Pinecrest or Krop. Schools that are prodominately Black or Hispanic are always ingored. The parents and teachers should have been up in arms about such a nasty environment! I know that there may have been some teachers that wanted to stand up for what is right, but you might be afraid to say something. Afterall, the regime that operate DCPS, are not interested in correcting the wrong but they are interesting in attacking those that speak out. In the last 6 months teachers cry for "Doinig the Right Thang" has been ignored, attacked, and disrepected. Look at Charles R. Drew Middle, Spring Middle, Krop Senior and the list can go on and on. Parents, you all must come out and be the VOICE! The parents in Regions 3 and 4 need to me more active and become aware of the power you have in changing the School Board attitude about your children education and safety.
I wonder if rodents are a problem at the schools of any of the school board members' relatives????
What other problems exist in Little River and other "poor" schools? Is there soap in the dispensers? Are the bathrooms cleaned daily? Do the teachers have basic supplies...chalk, pencils, paper clips?
Further inspections need to be conducted on EVERYTHING!!!
Obviously by reading your responses
the rats know which schools are black and hispanic and which aren't. Grow up, when parents start
gettting involved in their childrens education EVERYDAY and know whats going on at the schools will things change. Lip service does no good at solving problems or
educating children .
N.M.B. Sr. High has mice and rats.
The administration says they can't put baits out or fumigate because the rodents will die in the walls and the whole building will need to be torn up to remove them. The sticky traps can't keep up with the population growth. Any suggestions?
