When did Veterans Day become a shopping weekend?
Drove around a bit this morning and was surprised to see few American flags waving in this glorious autumn breeze.
Will the same disinterest be displayed this weekend at our shopping malls?

You have got to be joking. There are so few people in Miami now that
were even born in the U.S. that the
idea they would have any idea what this day means is laughable. The school system teachs mainly world history and geography, as we have
seen in our childrens classes. When
it comes to xmas everyone has got the idea of receiving gifts so this
holiday is well celebrated. When you go to other parts of the U.S.
you see that they do understand the
meaning.They were raised to learn
amreican history first and understand why you have the rights and lifestyle you have .
YOU have got to be joking -- this blogger seems to feel that the non-natives are the ones not flying the flag and lack knowledge of "amreican" (sic) history. Interesting.
As for Word History and Geography, they are a only a part of the Social Studies curriculum that is offered in our schools. You would be surprised how many Americans are totally ignorant of not only world geography, but their own country's geography as well. Ask anyone you know to point out Idaho or Wisconsin on a map and see what you get.
As far as this holiday is concerned - the idea is to honor the veterans that have served this country and defended our freedom - regardless of where they were born.
God bless the veterans.
My flag is flying high today and every day!
