The million and one ways we mess up our kids

Some parents don't deserve to have children. It sounds like the mother of the 4-year-old at the center of a custody fight pitting an adopted wealthy parent from Coral Gables and a poor farmer from Cuba is one of those.

I agree. Too many people are parents that have no business ever being near a child. It is horrible to read the testimony of the older brother. Heart breaking.

Now, this abstent father - who never lifted a finger to protect his daughter from the monster of a mother, is wanting to yank her out of the only loving home environment that she has ever known. He will tear her away from a stable home life and take her back to the misery of Cuba.

I hope that this case goes differently than the Elian Gonzalez case.

At that time, I would tell people,"If a child would have somehow made it over the Berlin wall during the cold war, and the absent parent called for the child to be thrown back over -- it would not have happened. Not in a million years.

I say the same thing again - if this had been Germany and not Cuba, the child would be provided with a safe haven.

I hope the judge is ready to do the hard thing and let the child stay.
