In support of underpaid teachers
In case you didn't know: Public school teachers are demonstrating today. They don't have a contract (and consequently no raise). Most parents don't know this but will when they drop off their kids. Teachers I know constantly tell me they love kids but can't afford to continue in the profession. Yet, while they haven't gotten a raise -- zero, zip, nada -- in a while, plenty of the muckety mucks who are acolytes of Rudy Crew have gotten hefty raises, as much as 9 percent!
The morale in the classroom is atrocious, and we wonder why there is such a shortage of teachers.

The School Board of Dade County knows that teachers, for the most part, are dedicated and loyal to their schools and their students. Because of this, they continue to work for less money, longer hours, and no respect.
Those who go into education, overall, are mostly people who enjoy teaching young people, and mentoring them. They are being taken advantage of by the system.
If the School Board and Superintendent can get the same work out of teachers for less money - they will continue to do so. It's a no-win situation for teachers.
If this continues, we will have a hard time recruiting new teachers as the older generation retires. Teachers should be respected as the professionals that they are - and paid accordingly.
If the funding needs to come by reducing the "administrative staffs" of the district offices and the regional centers, so be it. It is a sad day when the priority is given to the "support" staffs and not to the personnel that actually "deliver" the services of the Miami Dade County School system.
I say, pay the educators in line with their education and years of experience, and remove the majority of the "paper pushers" that are a drain to the system.
Without teachers, we have a very poor future. Our children's future is in their capable hands.
This is one of the Prime reasons why it is so hard to get good teachers to educate our children. Why would I get a Bachelors/Masters degree, deal with some of the worst school boards in the nation and having to deal with one of the least paid professions in our nation.
I say lets double their salaries and then we can start to negotiate their wage increase. It is abusive to have secretaries/administrative support assistants to the School board members earning almost 3 times a teachers salary, but the Board says they don't have enough money to offer the educators of our county a Raise.
I say, Fire the Board Members and with that money we save we can better support the professionals who are educating our children.
The same problem exists all over the country where we talk a good game in this country about how we want our children educated and then
do nothing about it. They are going
through the same situation in Utah were the newly hired teachers cannot think of buying a home or condo, sound familiar ? All of the
teachers today should have stayed in the classroom teaching our children ( we have TWO, 13 & 10) and us parents should have been out
on the streets protesting the system we have. The teachers union needs an organized effort using the
PTA's and let us raise some hell.
The old saying,"you get out what you put in" is really going to start showing up at some point.
