And the prices keep going up

Anyone who has shopped for groceries, pumped gas, and paid for electricity knows that prices for almost everything have been creeping up. Now there's official confirmation that it's costing more to live. I nearly fainted when I got my last electric bill. After blaming the kids for lowering the thermostat and leaving the lights on, I went back and read it more carefully, only to discover that we are actually using less kilowatts per hour -- just being charged more. (This may be the only time the kids aren't to blame!)
Milk's gone up, too. As have vegetables and fruit and some meat. I can cut back on how much I drive and how cool it is inside my home, but I still got to feed the five men and almost-men who live at home -- and they can really pack it down.
The only thing that hasn't gone up with the price of oil? Our salaries and reimbursement for auto expenses. Hmmm....

Oh my God - you are so right!!! Living in Miami is killing us -- between the cost of housing, the insurance rates, and utilities -- we are broke. We have very nice incomes and are not living up to where we should be -- we should be comfortable with the kind of money that comes into our household and we are forced to watch every penny.

Incredible!

No wonder people are moving out - to Central Florida or North Carolina where less money buys more house and a moderate income provides a comfortable life. All that and no traffic!!

It is getting pretty tempting to say ADIOS to the Magic City. We are being priced out of here!!

Ana- As you know the costs of living in major cities everywhere is extreme but in most areas the average person can make more money. We bought a townhouse last year in utah, in a ski resort and the cost of living and quality of life is hard to believe. We are staying for awhile as we own our own business but it gets harder everyday.

We moved from California to North Carolina so we could afford to buy a house. Many of my relatives moved out of Florida because of the high costs - specially for insurance premiums after the hurricanes.

I hope the government, including the local government, will do something about the taxes.
The properties' value have increased drastically in Miami-Dade County. And don't be fooled by the homestead exemption. We have a lot of second and third homes here in South Florida, and these people don't have any exemption.
That means that they had their taxes go to the sky, and they are a lot here.
So what did the County/City did with all this extra-money?
We have in fact a real problem of corruption and accountability in our government, local, state, and federal.
