The silver lining of Ernesto's cloud

Hurricanes -- or the danger thereof -- are fast becoming an aggravation of summer life in South Florida. But one little positive thought to make shuttering, filling up gas tanks and hunkering down feel a little better: driving around is a breeze. For those of us who work right up to when we get pulled off the clock, the roads are blessedly clear.
Another thing: We are reconnecting with our neighbors.

If by reconnecting, you mean dealing with the overreacting mob of people hoarding gasoline and pushing each other at the market, then yeah, I guess we've been reconnecting.

Seriously folks, make a few mojitos and enjoy your day off. This isn't Andrew or even Wilma.

Oh, and here's a tip to conserve gas: don't go driving around after the storm taking pictures of damage. If our house gets damaged, the last thing we need is a steady stream of idiots masquerading as tourists.
