When crime -- or the confession to a crime -- becomes a free meal ticket

Am I the only one who did a double-take when I read about how the Jon-Benet Ramsey suspect was treated? Here's a guy who may or may not have bludgeoned a 6-year-old to death -- no charges have been filed and even then he is innocent until proven guilty -- and who, at best, has a somewhat dubious history. Yet, we fly him back from Thailand with a luxury most of us cannot afford.
Before takeoff,Karr took a glass of champagne from a flight attendant. He first dined on pate, salad, fried king prawn, steamed rice, broccoli and chocolate cake. He also had a beer - crushing the empty can with his hands - and then had a glass of French chardonnay.
Later, he dined on roast duck with soy sauce and yellow noodles, and for his third meal had pizza, chocolates and a bottle of Evian.
Maybe this is some kind of interrogating technique. Smother the suspect with good airline food.

I agree with you. What gives? We average, law-abiding citizens get a choice of granola bars or cheese crackers on our flights and this self-confessed "killer" gets duck and wine? Where is the justice?

What is it with our society that makes a "celebrity" out of ANYONE that has a public profile. If you are in the news, or somehow well-known outside of your inner circle - people treat them as if they had actually accomplished something.

OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, and other freaks of nature have "fan" clubs of unhealthy individuals.

It should have been that this man would get a meal or two (no need to starve the weirdo) but certainly not any alchoholic beverages or gourmet meals. He has confessed to RAPING AND MURDERING a SMALL CHILD. He should be fed a peanut butter sandwhich and a soda.

This is just crazy.

We don't have any real evidence so far, and this crazy individual seems more attracted by the publicity than showing a true remorse. I am pretty sure he didn't do anything and just enjoy the interest.

But I have a few points I will like to note here:

We had recently in Miami a young black girl killed by a straight bullet. It didn't attract the same interest. Was it because of her color, or because the sickness of the other mother who kept this poor young girl competing in pageants wearing outfits for grown-up girls. Are we as sick as her mother to spend so much time on this story? Poor girl, and poor mother, and poor us.

And the second point, which is for me even more criminal. We don't have any evidence that this guy did kill this poor little girl growing up in this crazy environment.

But we have proof that he "legally" married a 14 years old girl, and another one, I think she was 16 years old. This is already a crime, a crime endorsed by the parents, and this sick society who allows that. this is the crime which should be prosecuted.

I think that minors are entitled to sex, yes. But allowing a marriage at 14, well sorry, this is a crime for me. They should teach them parental planning, condoms and pills instead.

But everybody is focused on the champagne this crazy guy drank, so be it.

Ana, remember that line about glass houses?

"It seems that Herald columnist Ana Veciana-Suarez, who writes a column on the hardships of middle-class family life and childrearing, is accused of lying when she failed to disclose her father's 1974 conviction for conspiring to distribute cocaine. Veciana-Suarez, then a high school student, was the only witness in his defense.

The issue arose when she was called for jury service in a 2003 civil trial and, as is usually the case, the potential jurors were asked about their experiences with the justice system. The failure to disclose is a misdemeanor, albeit one that could theoretically cause a mistrial."
