Hurricanes, homeowners insurance, taxes and now thieves
Owning a home in South Florida is getting to be a pain of the royal kind. The newest scam involves fraudulent deed signing. As usual, where there's money to be made, crime isn't far behind.
Such outright theft is only the latest of the burdens we have to shoulder. Our homeowner's insurance is expected to double, skyrocketing property values push taxes into the five figures, and we spend six months of the year with a wary eye on hurricane alley.
Paradise?

Our St Petersburg relatives are considering relocating out of Florida after their homeowners insurance topped $3500 a year and their taxes became astronomical.
Yes, it is paradise! Miami is the most beautiful place to live -- however, the insurance companies have become vultures, and unless we make better choices in the coming elections, we will continue to get fed upon.
We need to make sure that the insurance money we pay monthly is not just used to fatten the companies' portfolio....it is supposed to be there to cover us in case of.....
All of the noted reasons played a major role in our decision to leave Miami earlier this year, that is of 7 adults and 6 children in our family (6 more are on their way). Maybe for now and a while the grass is greener here, hopefully it will not be brown later, but in the meantime we get a breather, and a very nice one. We're outside Houston, TX to its NW. It's just plain great. Miami is great for a vacation (if you can afford it).
