Ready for hurricane season?

We have a whole row of cabinets in the garage devoted to hurricane supplies. We also have two generators -- a large one and a small one. And on a regular basis my husband makes sure we're up to date on everything. In other words, we practice what forecasters are telling the public to do.
Nonetheless, I still get a little anxious when the season begins. Hurricane Andrew pummelled our house, and it took us eight months to rebuild. I can't imagine going through all that again.

Hi,

- I have allocated some money to buy supplies during the tax break.

- Me and my folks homes have shutters installed and ready.

- I just purchased a police scanner that covers pretty much everything, so I stay on top of all local info just in case chaos breaks havoc.

*pending - I want to get a gun permit and purchase a firearm, in order to protect my family and any belongings left in case "The Big One" hits.

*pending - Lower property taxes and homeowners insurance so that I have some left over money. This way I can leave town to a Tennessee cabin while "The Big One" hits.

Other than that, I think I will relax at the beach more often this year rather than running around and listening to these asinine long-term hurricane forecasts. After all, a typical storm season will always include numerous storms, and with this all these storms try to avoid land. What we've seen in the past two years is unusual-- and the media will do all it can to twist what we've seen into something normal.

I, also, suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to Andrew. What a horrible time that was!!! It was a nightmare.

All the military aircraft flying overhead - no power (and back then, no generator either) in August. I remember the looting and the shooting.

I will never forget the wonderful David Bloom scolding looters and making them put stuff back -- and Kerry Sanders under a bridge during the storm....

I will never forget.

Because of that, we are prepared - as well as anyone can be -- and our fingers are crossed. Hopefully, we will NEVER have to go through anything like THAT again.

God help us if we do!
