Immigration debate continues

Though Congress closed for the long weekend, the debate over immigration, a hot potato issue, continues. Now many are looking at what went wrong during the last major overhaul in 1986 in hopes of learning from it.
Two points seem very relevant to me:
1) Good enforcement is needed. In other words, if you pass a law and don't have anyway to back it up, what use is it?
2) Our borders, as one expert said, will be penetrable no matter what we do.

I agree with you. This might just be a political effort to gather discussion around something other than the war.

Immigration changes need to be made in a way that they can be enforceable. If not, you are right, what is the use?!

Another topic that no one is mentioning is what impact the proposed changes could bring. For example, with amnesty, many undocumented workers will be able to obtain legal jobs and, therefore, pay taxes, and participate in social security deductions. Do you think that their current employers will be willing to pay the difference?

Maybe or maybe not. I think that the day of a cheap housekeeper will become history.
