Miami traffic: @*&%)# !!!
So I'm out and about this morning, driving here and there for work. And wouldn't you know it -- everywhere I went somebody cut me off, ran a stop sign, took a red light etc. etc.
I vowed to stop whining, to stop sweating the small stuff, but Miami traffic is a true test of that commitment.

I have a six minute commute. During those six minutes, I, too, see dozens of cases of reckless driving every week. No enforcement. Gridlock at the major intersections. No enforcement. Red light runners. No enforcement. Road rage. No enforcement. Well, you get the picture. What is our police force doing? What happened to Chief Timoney, the big savior of the streets in NYC and Philly. Not so much in Miami!
Ana, you should do a story about this in the print edition.
I guess you're right - every place I have ever lived, the traffic and rude drivers have been an issue. I have always lived in metropolitan cities and I think that this is pretty typical.
I have good friends that live on the outskirts of a small town -- they don't have very many traffic issues BUT they have to plan ahead for the 40 minute drive to the grocery store. Also, they don't have a lot of fender benders there either -- BUT what accidents do occur, there are many more with fatalities (statistically speaking) because people tend to drive fast on those big empty roads -- until someone crosses their path.
Nothing is ever perfect.
One word... Hialeah-- this place is notorious for the most illicit cutting off I have ever witnessed. Although, not so much the road rage if you honk. They just do it without shame.
My favorite scenario is having to make a left on West 18 AVE. onto 49 Street which faces the Wasteland Mall and next to El Dorado furniture.
If you've never experienced it-- here is a brief ride.
There are three lanes; a strict right only lane to go east on 49 st., a middle lane to jump on the 826 south flyover ramp AND to go on the furthest right lane 49 street west bound, and the third being a strict left turn only for middle and left westbound 49 street lanes.
While a long line of cars accumulates on the middle LEFT TURN lane during red lights, the RIGHT ONLY lane sits virtually empty. Guaranteed there is always some straggler with the right turning signal traveling on it at 2 MPH just waiting for the light to turn green to CUT in front of anyone with a 2 foot gap in between to cut in the busy left lane.
I don't get mad. I just get close to the car in front, but not everyone is as savvy with their driving. 1st responder to this blog got it right... Where is the justice!
The Port of Miami loses business because of Miami traffic. We have more "roads to nowhere" 112, which doesn't connect to 826 N, the Gratigny (119) which doesn't connect to I 95, and a three lane bottleneck into Miami. When will our tax dollars go toward linking these? Also, in Broward, the Turnpike crosses I 75 in Miramar, but doesn't have an exit or entrance...what was someone thinking!!?? NOT. And by the way, TOLL IS ABUSE, NO EXCUSE!! Increases pollution, snarls traffic, keeps the poor off thoses highways. The old argument that a penny at the pump is regressive is ridiculous!! Gas prices have gone up already, so our govt. should take advantage, and abolish all tolls!!!
