Get it over with already, Fidel
Remember that Clairol hairdye commercial where a voice would blather, as the camera panned in on a beauty, "Does she or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows."
Well, in the case of Fidel Castro and his illness, the speculation is as rampant. Now a Spanish paper says he's close to death from an intestinal infection. The Cuban government denies everything. (No surprise here.) t's amazing that the dictator has so many people on the edge of their seats waiting for the end. He must be enjoying himself, even in the process of kicking the bucket. Always center stage, spotlight firmly in place -- even on his deathbed

Sooner or later - he will die. Then what???
they will but they won't admit it and the Cuban government will make some ridiculous story how he is reserved in "cryonic state."
He's already outlived the administrations of 10 U.S. presidents. Now he's managed to create a successful transition after he dies. Sorry he had to spoil some exiles' party!
11:30 I sense your joy in your erroneous perception that Fidel will make a succesful transition. That will NOT happen. Hopefully, you will never live under a Fidel type leader. You would not be able to write this blog.
Fidel is one of the greatest human beings of the 20th AND 21st centuries. May he live a long long life. The humanity he has fought for all his life will remember him for the example of the Cuban Revolution.
Fidel and the Cuban people - in their millions gave humanity the "1st and 2nd Declarations of Havana"
"...What is the history of Cuba but the history of Latin America? And what is the history of Latin America but the history of Asia, Africa, and Oceania? And what is the history of all these peoples but the history of the most pitiless and cruel exploitation by imperialism throughout the world?" .... "What is it that is hidden behind the Yankee’s hatred of the Cuban Revolution?...What explains it is fear. Not fear of the Cuban Revolution but fear of the Latin American revolution...fear that the plundered people of the continent will seize the arms from the oppressors and, like Cuba, declare themselves free people of America. . . .
What does the Cuban Revolution teach? That revolution is possible.
He has been so succesful that they don't want to report about his health because they realize it would be pandemonium...that is how succesuful it has been esperanza...what a great success...they are even afraid to tell the truth.
Woe to America and the citizens of Miami, The reaction to the death of Castro by the Exiles will be a much deserved embarrasment to us all.
Exiles are not celebrating the death of a murderer... yet! Don't worry. It will not be an embarrassment. It will unbelievable. It will rock the planet!!!
It will be a day of redemption for the thousands in the firing squads, for the thousands drowned in the Florida Straits, for the millions separated for so long!
I take it Esperanza and Anonymous live in the Big US of A.....
Poor Esperanza, she "recites" from text and forgets reason. This is rather simple, Fidel Castro has spent the last 47 years poisoning Cuba as a country, it's society as a whole and the guts of each individual, whether they agree with him or not. Now LIFE is paying him back with the same coin, he is rotting, let's hope he remains in this state for a long enough time with a clear mind so that he can suffer an infinitesimal part of what he has made his countrymen suffer all these years.
Yeah, Esperanza even has it better than the family that now live on my Grandfather's land for the past 50 years. Unless she is one of the 4 individuals on the island that have a very restricted Internet access.
Fidel never gave a rat's ass about noone that left Cuba except for one individual-- Elian. I wonder how many children have died in the seas trying to escape the coward fool. I wonder if he checked to see if any of their relatives were left to show similar concern. NONE other.
As have most Cubans in exile, I've looked forward many years to the demise of Communism in this hemisphere and on this planet. However, I cannot rejoice over Castro's state of health and imminent death. When he does finally vacate the planet, I hope those he has oppressed will surrender him to God's judgement and find their way to an altar to bend their knees in prayer for the total freedom of Cuba and its people. What we send into the lives of others comes back into our own - increased and multiplied.
Everyone seems to be omitting one simple fact, name, word... Raul. Communism in Cuba will go nowhere fast with Fidel's death.
Raul is 75.
Do you really think he wants to inherit a bankrupt country risking his family's security in a likely botched transition?
Anybody said negotiation?
Saddam is too recent to be forgotten. He was given the chance to have a way out and hesitated... We all know the resto of the story... his sons are dead and the last time I heard from him he was hanging from a rope...
Raul is on the way out to die peacefully somewhere in Spain with the security that his family (and propably Fidel's) will find a safe heaven somewhere...
Nobody wants to die... It's human nature...
Exiles in Miami have to realize that they lost the country in the revolution just like loyalists to the British lost America while fleeing to Canada. The transition is in place and many capable leaders will take control of the government. They are young and committed to advancing what Fidel founded but perhaps moderating the economy and mending fences with the U.S. In this respect, Fidel won and his legacy will be a stable and prosperous Cuba independent of the U.S.
As the U.S. Congress has changed since the election, the time is getting closer when Cuba will share diplomatic relations and see an end to the travel ban. Americans are getting closer to the point where they realize that U.S. foreign policy belongs to all citizens and not just a small portion in south Florida. Castro's death will likely hasten this move as Raul seeks a more pragmatic approach. That will be good for everyone.
Fidel would have been gone from power years ago if the U.S. had lifted the embargo and restored diplomatic relations.Instead, we isolated him while preserving his one ace in the hole: blame America for their economic ills instead of engaging the Cuban people in the dynamics of a democratic society. He wouldn't have lasted in power for 2 years. Now that he has been there for 46 years, the institutions he created are fixed in place. The U.S. blew it.
The Sooner that better
This is what I'm curious about. We've always had these spoiled Hollywood folks make excuses for Castro. And say Cuba has superior health care in comparison to everybody, including us. Well if that's the case, explain why they had to import a Doctor from Spain to treat Castro?
We should be looking forward to recapturing our beloved Cuba for this and future generations. Our parents and grandparents have lost the Cuba they once knew forever. Our efforts should be concentrated on how to best transition the Castros out of there and make room for a new revolution.
Libertad!
Does Castro get his wine, cheese, and paella from www.gugleando.com ?
I just wonder
