Not a good thing

The tax cut we approved is going to bite us in the butt. As I've said before, it's a band-aid solution to an inequitable tax structure. We took the easy way out. Just as the original Save Our Homes amendment was short-sighted, this one is, too.

Well said, Ana. Sometimes I think we're back in the 1950s with our gov't promoting this discrimination.

You said it. I can't tell you how many people I talked to about this being a bad idea. It's going to end up hurting people more than helping them. The need for the taxes don't go away so I think the more important question is "Where are they going to tax to make up for lost property taxes?". Besides, I may not own property (the the burden will most likely be shifted onto me with higher sales taxes which actually only hurt those with less income, no matter how much they get back) but my parents do and they were completely against it. In the grand scheme of things what will only $240 or so a year get you? It's only twenty extra dollars a month! I'm also afraid for the education system. I don't care what Crist says about protecting it, there is no way it won't feel the pressure from this tax cut.

Politicians are playing with peoples emotional/economical needs as always. Property tax relief is an absolute necesity for Floridians and for the State to continue its appeal for investing and retirement, but the relief has to be proportionately correct. In the last three years property taxes have increased 60 plus percent. The $240.00 relief = 2.4 pct.... An absolute JOKE. This is an INSULT to every Floridian. Is it possible that this approved legislation is a result of our own ignorance?

We're going to need to get the President involved in this one, perhaps he can put an end to this abuse.

This Amendment is not going to resolve anything. We still have the enequity, where people in same neighborhood pay such a big difference in TAXES. UNFAIR, UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Is it fair that new generations or any new person buying a property in Florida (if any)besides paying a lot more for the property, also has to pay 5 to 6 times more in TAXES. Taxes will have to be eliminated and increase sales tax, so we can enjoy the same constitutional right (EQUALITY FOR ALL).

NO ONE WILL BUY ANOTHER HOUSE FOR $ 500K AND PAY OVER $ 10,000 IN TAXES. TRUST ME THEY NEED TO CUT AND CUT AGAIN

If the 1.7M people who voted NO for Amendment 1 agree to donate their $240 savings to a legal fund, we can mount a pretty serious legal team to fight Amendment 1 at the Federal level. Amendment 1 violates the Fair Housing Act and Commerce Act. Our Governor blew it and just dug our hole deeper. Thanks to all you wingnuts in Tallahassee!
