Does gender matter?

The city manager of Largo, near Tampa, has lost his job because he is planning on having a sex change. By all accounts, he has done a good job for the past 14 years.
So I have a question for the commissioners who voted against him: Does it matter who runs the city, a man or a woman, as long as he/she is competent?

This is a situation where most people feel uncomfortable, but a transgendered person is not a threat to anyone else.

They are too busy dealing with their own demons.

It is a sad thing that people feel compelled to judge and condemn something that they don't understand - such as this person's pain.

It is even sadder to read what the supposedly "religious" leader said about the city manager. As I understood Christ's teachings, there was a lot of "judge not" and a lot of "love your brother" stuff. This so-called Christian leader was showing NONE of that.

I feel badly for the city manager - she should have been allowed to continue in her job, as long as she was performing her duties.

This was not a good decision by the Largo folk. It tells a lot about the kind of narrow, bigotted, and ignorant minds that run that town. Glad I am NOT there!!
