What kind of education is this?

A school board member is suing our school superintendent over a squabble about putting items on the agenda. Guess who is paying the legal costs?
Yep, you and me. The taxpayers of Miami-Dade are footing the bill, including a $450/hour charge for Superintendent Rudy Crew's lawyer. In the meantime, my kids are sitting in classrooms with 40-plus kids, teachers are paid a miserly salary, and booster clubs have to raise money 24/7 to buy the most basic equipment for their student members.
Maybe it's time parents march on the school board building.

I agree that we should march -- to the voting booth and vote these bozos out of office. They have become so comfortable in their roles, that they are abusing their offices.

Dr. Marta Perez, in particular, has made a career of being the "lone wolf" and the "anti-establishment" member -- always voting as a minority of ONE on any issue of consequence. She has made a joke of the school system and rambles on and on (often interrupting herself) and making absolutely NO sense whatsoever.

Vote her out. Send her home to whatever job she does badly elsewhere.

Use that money for EDUCATION -- not for these highjinks.

Finally, there is a School Board member who is trying to stop Dr. Crew's ideas of management. Ever since we got this superintendent, the school board has allowed him to do whatever he wants without any type of consequences. He rules this school district like it is his own personal checking account (from getting an interest-free house, to have the entire school disctrict working towards his annual bonus). He talks the talk, but does not walk the walk. When was the last time Dr. Crew visited a school and talked to teachers and administrators? He only goes to Town Hall meetings, and for that he shows up late. Also, he has the tendency of demoting Hispanic administrators without any reason -look at what was done to the principal from Hammocks Middle. Yet, incompetent administrators who have cost this district thousands of dollars in audit exceptions are rewarded with promotions (Steve Gallon, Albert Payne, Cynthia Gracia). Also, we have administrators such as Alberto Carvalho (whose last school administrative position was as a little over a year as Assistant Principal), Lourdes Rovira and Maria De Armas (who were school teachers working in special programs) now having high ranking positions from District Directors to Associate Superintendents. All of these promotions happened during Dr. Crew's reign. When are we going to vote all of the other School Board member who are willing to approve every single promotion and demotion without questioning the validity of such changes? When are Dr. Stinson, Dr. Ingram, Ms. Greer, Dr. Karp and Mr. Barrera going to look at every item that is approved by them - without getting a special favor for a special friend - for a vote?
Unfortunately, it is the tax payers who pay for their special deals. Money needs to be allocated to the schools and to help teachers meet the demands of the state, not to continue with this level of corruption in our school system.
