The myth of Che

It's amazing how a flunky like Che Guevara has reached such cult status. We get a peak into the hype machine in this story about where his body is really buried: Bolivia.
Years ago, the Cuban government, needing an infusion of revolutionary fervor, claimed the body had been taken to Cuba, where "pilgrims" were led to believe they were venerating the bones of a hero. (A hero, by the way, who royally messed up the island's banking system and didn't do much of anything right.) Of course it isn't just Fidel Castro who has mined the allure of a man he sent to the jungles of Bolivia knowing full well the likelihood of his survival was nil. Writers, photographers and anyone wanting to make a buck have appropriated Che's image, and the people who have taken up his "cause" actually know very little about his ideas.

I can't stand these uninformed people who have made Che a cult hero. I bet you they can't name one reason why they believe he deserves his "hero" status. Some have gone as far as calling him a humanitarian. How ridiculous is that?

While believe that all killing is wrong, I am amused by the double standard under which murderers who work for right wing extremists (Batista, Pinochet, Bush) are 'heroes' or 'freedom fighters' and murderers who work on behalf of popularly supported indigenous movements are 'assassins'.

There would never have been a Cuban revolution if there had not been oppression of a large majority of people for the benefit of the few (e.g., the casino mafia bosses, rich Cubans who fled to Miami, etc.)

The Cuban Executions where very bad, unforgivable really,(if one does research thay will find that the executions were not only on Che's shoulders) but let us understand that Bush has killed many more people by the whole system he perpetuates. Che was a humanitarian. He was very intelligent and was motivated by injustice. His intentions were grand and noble but he was a human being and full of flaws. Now, compare him to Bush and I will take Che any day. If you don't understand what I am taliking about then I must assume that you know very little about Che or the motives and ideas behind socialism.
Just go get a starbucks coffee and go back to your fantasy american idol world.
