Take the offer and run

Ah,something to smile about. The principal of Devonaire K-8 has offered to stay on for $1 a year salary to make sure that the expansion he has been overseeing is finished correctly.
The School Board said no.
Hell-oh? Are we cutting our nose to spite our face?
I know several people whose children attend or have attended Devonaire and they have always spoken highly of this guy. I don't know him from Adam, but I recognize appreciation. So why not accept the gracious offer?
Apparently, it has something to do with budget constraints, but it sounds like a lot of hogwash to me. If this board can decide not to give teachers their raises after agreeing to do so in a contract, I am sure they can find a creative accounting way to keep this guy on board next year. How about donating the $119,000 to buy supplies or hire para-professionals or give teachers bonuses?

While that is true, Dr. Feldman is one-of-a-kind, genuine, honest and sincere while truly looking out for the best interest of the children. Devon Aire parents are merely asking for one more year and are doing so with "what's best for our children" in mind

Dr. Feldman can volunteer and lend his expertise to the school district in a myriad of ways. However, you cannot have a principal dictating to the district how long he will stay, who his administrative staff is going to be and when his replacement will be named. It is time for a new principal to take over and continue the traditions of this fine institution.

Don't be fooled people, this Principal and others like him from the school district know exatly how to funnel money from the district with their expense cards and other benefits. It's just another slick way to trick the public and say hey we're not going to rehire double dippers, so we'll bring him on for a buck from payroll, then pay him through the back door with supplements and other benefits. They put it out there to get a feel of what public opinion would be. chances are he's a crony they want to save but can't do it outright or other employees who are given the boot may complain. Go already, you did your time, you are not gods gift to the school, they have hundreds of good candidates to fill the job.

to "new principal",it is not Dr. feldman who is dictating, it is the desire of the parents (taxpayers) and children. It is a big assumption that a new principal would carry on the tradtions of Devon Aire and it is,unfortunately, unlikely that they will do so with the honesty, sincerety and genuineness of Dr. F.. It is also highly unlikely that that individual will be open to what his/her parents and students and staff have to say.
To "anonymous", I understand your scepticism, but Dr. F. is one of the good guys- that's why his offer is not being taken. He does not "fit in".

Larry needs to go... His time has come and you cannot have a FORMER principal or taxpayers dictate who runs a school. By statute that decision is the Superintendents alone. I HOPE a new principal will change this culture of control at the school, decisions must be made on pedagogical value alone not on what is popular.

My final comment: New Principal's attitude is precisely what is wrong with our school system. We, the parents, should have say over who we'd like to run our school. Our system, the educators and the research preach parental involvement. That is what the parents are doing, getting involved and asking tht our voices be heard. That's democracy. I sincerely hope and pray that a new principal will not change the loving, friendly familial environment that sets Devon Aire apart from the other public schools. I, as a parent, know first hand the environment at the school and can say without hesitation that there is absolutely no culture of control there.

I am not only an educator but also a parent of a child at Devon Aire and I would like for you to know that the school will undoubtedly suffer due to the short-sightedness of the school board's decision. I have been in education for years and have never known another principal to be so genuinely invested in the welfare of not only the school and it's reputation as he is beyond reproach, but of the interests of the children. In a world where schools are falling far short of the educational standard that we should expect, Dr. Feldman has provided our children with a haven of excellence that will be missed with his departure. It is truly the wish of the parents that he stay. By the way, when we found out that Dr. Feldman was leaving, my child cried.
